Uganda's national women's basketball team will not make their debut at the All Africa Games.
This follows the National Council of Sports' decision to drop the team apparently due to lack of funds to take the team to the Brazzaville Games that officially kick-off today.
Basketball is one of the number of sports that were affected by NCS' lack of funds to facilitate the trips of the athletes.
Gazelles' captain Vickie Ntale says they should have been considered priority when choosing who to take to the games.
We should have been considered a priority. Basketball on the National team level has never qualified for that level and then when we do, look at what happens to us.
Ntale is disappointed by the decision to drop the team after putting in much work despite the hardships.
As a leader I feel bad not only for myself but for the gals as well. It's a really cruel thing that NCS has done to the Gazelles especially for a team that is going to make their game debut in Congo. The girls have given a lot.
The focus now turns to the September 24 to October 3 Afrobasket in Cameroon.
It's really demoralizing for the girls but in the Gazelles' camp training continues as usual because we have Afrobasket.
The Gazelles are pooled in Group A along with hosts Cameroon, Mozambique, South Africa, Gabon, and Mali.
