Kenya College of Accountancy- University (KCA-U) and Lions finally registered their first wins in the women and men premier leagues on saturday respectively.
After four winless games each, KCA-U beat Mennonite 41-29 on Saturday at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium while Lions won 61-47 away to Nakuru Club.
Lions head coach Juma Ikapian attributed the victory to a change in their training, an extra session every week.
“The game was tough from the start but we struggled to the end with our defense stepping up well. After previous losses, we took time to work on our mistakes and coordination between players was good.”
For KCA-U, the win was long overdue and they dominated Mennonite in the first three quarters winning 8-7, 15-10 and 10-3. Mennonite won the fourth 9-8.
“We lost nine players immediately the season began which was a huge setback to our plans. I have recruited but some of the new players have never been coached making it difficult to handle them,” head coach Victor Ochieng said.
“These conferences have come with big breaks between games. I utilized that since our last game with KPA by taking the players through friendlies just to make them accustomed to winning and it has worked.”
Celestine Isabwa scored 12 points for KCA-U who had four points from free shots and one 3-point shot. Rachael Kibwana had a game high 20 points for Mennonite, scoring four in first quarter, six in second quarter, three in third quarter and seven in the fourth.
