NIGERIA : Swingman Basketball Cap Begins Thursday

THE fifth edition of the Swingman Basketball Camp begins Thursday at the Ilupeju Basketball ground. It will end on Saturday.
According to the initiator of the event, Taye Adeniyi, the camp was put together to teach and enhance the shooting skills of the participants. She noted that over 50 kids would be involved in this year's event due to paucity of funds.
She stated that the event has been a huge success in the past with over 120 kids in attendance each year and assured that the camp would bounce back fully next year, as logistics would be put in place to ensure that more kids are involved.
"We would have postponed the event due to paucity of funds, but we decided to go ahead with the little funds we have so that we don't deprive participants the Knowledge they would get from taking part. I am sure that by next year, the camp would bounce back in a strong way and we will hold two camps as we usually do," She added.
Adeniyi, who is an assistant coach at First Bank Basketball Club, said that shooting is the basic skill in basketball without which a player cannot become a top star. "The game is all about shooting and the possibility of becoming a star is high if a player is a good shooter."
National team player, Ndidi Madu, who inspired First Bank Basketball Club to fourth place finish at the just concluded FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in Sfax Tunisia, would be on hand to pass her experience to the kids. Other coaches that would be at the event are Adeka Daudu, Chukwu Usofor, Mensah Dosu and Rasak Okedeyi.
Adeniyi also commended all those that have supported the event and called on sponsors to support the camp as from next year.
