ZAMBIA : Pacers Win First Game for Zambia

Pacers 56 - JBC 36
UNZA Pacers yesterday beat JBC of Zimbabwe to record a first win for hosts Zambia at the Zone Six Africa Club Men and Women Championships currently underway at the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka.
Pacers, who started off their campaign with a 70-66 defeat to Ferroviario Beira of Mozambique on Monday night in Group A, continued with their good showing to this time around record a first win of the competition.
With both Pacers and Shells having lost on Monday, pressure was on for the Zambian teams to put up a good performance befitting a host side and Pacers did just that yesterday.
But the Monday game that was watched by Sports Deputy Minister Steven Masumba saw Pacers starting off on a good note winning the first set 17-15 and dominated the second quarter 35-27 with the likes of Francis Chilebela standing out defensively together three-point shooter Sipo Nakalowa and Gosa Hamudulu.
But the third quarter saw Beira coming back into the game strongly narrowly losing 49-48 before they upped their game to win the game 70-62 in a match that left basketball fans wanting more but sadly the Zambian team lost.
Meanwhile, defending champions Primero Agosto of Angola took early command of Group B winning two of their opening matches to lead the log. Agosto started with a 77-59 win over fellow Angolan side Petro Athletico before recording an emphatic 118-58 win over Cameo of Zimbabwe.
Agosto are in the same group as Zambian side Matero Magic who started their campaign last night with a match against Athletico before the two side's battle it out this afternoon in what would be an exciting tie.
In the women category, UNZA Honeys were in action against Inter Clube of Angola last evening while Shells, who suffered a humiliating 36-119 defeat to Athletico Polytechnic, are today expected to redeem themselves when they take on Primero Agosto.
Honeys will return to the field with a game against Polytechnic while Angolan side Inter Clube beat Agosto 66-41 on Monday night fixture
