The Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League and the Division One will kick off on the 23rd of March 2013. The league that had initially been scheduled for kick off on 9th of March was pushed back because of the Kenyan national elections set for 4th of March.
The league will be preceded by a pre season tournament on the weekend of 17th March.
In the 2012 season, Co-op Bank retained the men’s title after beating USIU Tigers 2-1 in the best of 3 series (game one USIU 79 - Co-op 77, game two Co-op Bank 71 - USIU 60 and game three Co-op Bank 77- USIU 63).
Eagle Wings also retained the women’s title after winning game 1 and 2 in the play off finals against USIU Flames (game one E. Wings 58 - Flames 55, game two E. Wings 67 – Flames 62).
The 2013 season will see one of the oldest clubs in the league KCB Lions change name to Lions after Kenya Commercial Bank the sponsors of the team withdrew their sponsorship.
KCB came in third in the 2012 season and after the withdrawal of the team it means that 3 teams will be promoted from the Division One to the Premier League namely Nairobi Aviation, Nakuru Club.
KCA and KU Oryx have been promoted to the women’s Premier League to replace Predators who pulled out and Gladiators who were demoted.
In the Division One, three teams were promoted from the Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) Provincial League. The teams are Equity Bank, Strathmore University and Little Prince.
