RWANDA : Egypt Ends Rwanda's Run for Africa Cup

With only one game remaining, Rwanda women basketball team's hopes of qualifying for the African Cup were dealt a big blow after losing to Egypt 56-81 at the ongoing Zone 5 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Friday, Tierra Henderson, one of two professional players on the team, was Rwanda's highest scorer with 26 points, more than half of the team's total score.
The defeat leaves the reigning champions Rwanda in fourth position with five points, while Egypt remains second with seven points. Kenya leads the standings with eight points after they beat Egypt 70-64 on Thursday.
Kenya's final match was against Uganda on Friday and a win would ensure the Kenyan girls qualify for the Cup of Nations as the best of Zone 5.
The only hope for Rwanda to qualify as second best is to only secure a win against third-placed Uganda today in the last game in the round robin competition.
The men's semifinals played last evening, Rwanda were due to take on Somalia, while Egypt took on Kenya. The finals are set for today. The Cup of Nations will be hosted by Democratic Republic of Congo in August.
