KENYA : Eagle Wings to hold fundraiser on Saturday

Kenya basketball premier league defending champions Eagle Wings Basketball club will on Saturday play Cooperative bank at the Nyayo stadium in what has been dubbed “Saturday Night Basketball” for Eagle Wings. The event will be used to raise funds in support of Eagle Wings who are expected to travel to Ivory Coast mid next month for the African FIBA basketball competition.
Entry will be 200 shillings and all gate collections on the day will go towards the team’s kitty. The event will be held in collaboration with CodeRed.
Eagle Wings qualified for the African tournament after winning the regional Zone 5 tournament held in Kampala Uganda last month. The team needs close to 3.5 Million shillings to facilitate their travel and participation in the tournament with 1.5 Million shillings for air tickets and the other 1.5 Million for accommodation, licenses, visa clearance, meals and player allowances.
“The ministry of sports has promised to give 1.5 Million shillings for air tickets and we now need 1.5 Million shillings more. Days are running out that is why we will be holding a special fundraiser on Saturday night at Nyayo gymnasium. We call on our fans and stakeholders to come and join us in actualizing the dreams of these young girls.” Said Eagle Wings official Agina Wesonga.
In 2010, Eagle Wings also won the regional competition played in Burundi but they failed to travel for the African championships in Tunisia due to lack of funds.
“It will be very demoralizing if the same happens again to the players who have dedicated themselves to the success of the team both locally and on the international front. The girls have promised not to disappoint.”Agina adds.
