KENYA : KCB reclaim top spot

KCB staged a powerful performance beating USIU Tigers 78 – 49 on Sunday afternoon at the Nyayo Gymnasium to reclaim their top spot on the table standings.

The loss to the bankers was USIU’s first this season while KCB edged closer to achieving their aim of going unbeaten in the 1st leg with only 2 matches remaining. By half time, KCB were at 36 points while Tigers trailed 11 points behind. The bankers started strongly winning the first 2 quarters at 20 -13 in the 1st and 16 – 12 in the 2nd.
It was the same case in the 3rd quarter as KCB continued with their dominance pulling away with an 18 -9 drubbing of the students. They took the day in the last quarter and eventually bagged the 2 points with a 24 – 15 final quarter win.
This takes KCB back to the top of the table after being pushed to second by USIU. The Bankers now have 18 points from 9 matches while USIU (2nd) has the same number of points but have played a match more than the bankers.
Co-op bank, the 2011 Defending Champions, are 3rd after 5 wins and 4 losses. Their recent win was the 89 – 72 beating of Ulinzi on Saturday.
Strathmore University are 4th with 13 points after 8 matches played losing 3 of those. University of Nairobi Terrorists follows at 5th having played 8 matches also winning 4 and losing the same number. They have 12 points.
The second half of the table sees KPA, Blazers and Mennonites all sharing 11 points on position 6, 7 and 8 respectively. KPA has played 7 matches winning 4 while Blazers have played 9 matches with their win over Terrorists on Saturday making it their second.
Masinde Muliro University is at position 9 with 10 points while Thunder who failed to travel to Mombasa to honor their fixture against KPA due to financial constraints lie 10th with 7 points. Thunder has played 7 matches winning 2, losing 4 and forfeiting 1.
Ulinzi and Lakeside are the two teams closing the table in the men’s category with 5 points both. Ulinzi has played 3 matches and their only win came after they beat Mennonites 82 – 63 on Sunday.
Lakeside is at the tail end of the log having played 6 matches forfeiting one of those, losing 4 and beating Strathmore University last month at the Kisumu Sports Ground.
