Don Bosco went down to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology JKUAT 54 – 51 in a tight Nairobi Basketball Association league match played at the Railways Sports Club over the weekend. This was their first lost of the season.
But despite falling to the students, Steven Sassi the Don Bosco tactician said he was pleased with his side performance,
“I expected a very fast game and that is what they did. It has shown us that we are not invincible and when we head into the next game we shall be more cautious,”
JKUAT started on a high note in the 1st quarter beating Don Bosco 21 – 11 to take an early lead. But Don Bosco would elevate their play in the 2nd quarter though the students once again prevailed beating them closely by 8 points.
The 3rd quarter Don Bosco came charged and managed to prevail over their stubborn opponents with a close margin getting 12 points against JKUAT’s 9.
Despite winning the final quarter, the margin was not enough to cancel out JKUAT’s lead and Thika road side took the day.
Kijuba Guyton gave JKUAT 16 points while Michael Otieno and Dean Wamema managed 14 and 12 points respectively. Joel Atebe of Don Bosco stood out in all the matches played on Saturday scoring an impressive 27 points.
Maxwell Olumbo the JKUAT coach admitted that it was a tight match against a powerful team but said he was glad that his side maintained their clam and staged a strong defense play to win the day,
“The game was okay considering my boys just came from holiday this week and are not yet at their best, I know I have a good side worth checking.”
In other games that were played over the weekend, Kenya Polytechnic beat Our Lady Queen of Peace 56 -41 with Peter Mwaura getting 18 points for the winners while Jimmy Kibichi and Bazil Mugeni got 16 and 13 points respectively for Queen of Peace.

Strathmore thrashed JKUAT Karen Campus 86 – 29.
The ladies category saw K.U’s Oryx beat their neighbours JKUAT 34 – 28 while Strathmore ladies registered a second win in the league when they beat EMYBA 42 – 43. Philomena Sila and Dorcas Wambua managed 15 points each for EMYBA.
