UGANDA : Power beat Warriors to win Fuba championship

Isaac Afidra scored a screaming three-pointer in the dying moments for DMark Power to stun Warriors 99-97and lift the MTN Fuba League at YMCA on Friday night. Power have now become the second men’s team to defend a championship after six-time winners Falcons.

The clash between Power and Warriors last season were so bruising and there has been so little to separate the two sides in this year’s best-of-seven series. But Warriors will feel hard done to lose the title after winning the opening two games of the series. Only them know how they let Power go on a three-game winning run before they pegged them back in Game Six. Even in the decisive clash, Warriors looked destined for victory for the bigger part. Power though have their password. Before Afidra’s three-pointer, Warriors had a slight control of the game, leading 96-94 game. They could have even stretched it but Michael Kariuki missed two on the foul line. Regrettably for the Warriors, Kariuki celebrated before he attempted his shots! And shortly after his miss, Afidra did the damage on the transition. With Power enjoying a one-point advantage – 97-96 – Afidra found himself on the line but converted none of the two throws. Just shortly after, Warriors’ Stephen Okias had a chance of reclaiming the advantage for his side but could only level the scores 97-97. When the usually composed Ben Komakech got onto the line, Warriors hopes were completely dashed. He sunk two from the line to seal the grueling clash, which will not leave basketball fans’ memories very soon. Warriors, beaten in the finals by the same side last season, started the soul-searching again.
