KENYA : Eagle Wings shake off KPA’s challenge in league play-off .

EAGLE Wings beat reigning national women champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 68-58 in an entertaining Play-off final Game Two at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium. Eagle Wings got off the blocks forcefully, taking a 4-0 lead through two quick baskets by Rebecca Sarange and Angela Okoth; but KPA charged back to tie 4-4 tie courtesy of a shot from Brenda Angechi.

KPA trailed 18-8 in the first quarter but did well in the second as impressive forward Carol Mureji started to cause havoc. The losers closed down the victors 15-17 before going trailing again 33-25 at the breather. At the start of the third quarter, Linda Nyikuli and Okoth baskets saw the game move in Wings favour as they raced away 49-36. But once again KPA fought back into this top contention before a surprisingly near empty gymnasium.
It was Angela Okoth efforts that saw Wings surge ahead again 66-51 after Rebecca Sarange nailed a free shot. Okoth led all scorers with 21 points, Silalei Shani shot 16 while Samba Mjomba bagged 10. Mureji popped in 14 with Miriam Awuor sinking 12 for KPA who never took a lead in the proceedings.
