KENYA : Coop retain Basketball title with win over KCB

COOP Bank made a meal of KCB Lions to bank the KBF title for the second time in a row. The Lions were honestly no match for the bankers who beat them in all departments on Saturday afternoon to win the match 79-60.

KCB were the first to bag a basket and taking an early 5-0 lead but two quick three pointers from Abel Nson and Ali Salim sparked up the game in the otherwise slow first quarter which ended 13-17 in KCB’s favour and that was the last time they had any control in the game.
They were now at the mercy of a merciless COOP’s who were out to defend their title. COOP amidst great composure threatened to turn the game into some training session whipping the helpless Lions 29-18 to head to the halftime break with a seven-point lead.
COOP’s duo of Brian Busu and Titus Musembi were outstanding in the second half watering down the efforts of KCB that played like they were inside the Nyayo gymnasium for the first time. COOP Bank tore them apart in the third quarter 20-11 to send signs that anything short of a win would not be accepted by their coach.
There were however some tensed moments during this particular quarter with KCB’s Victor Ochieng’ letting his frustration to Michael Makiadi but the referees whistle was blown from nowhere to cool down the players and avoid any ugly scenes. COOP wrapped up the game with a composed 17-14 win against a KCB side that looked like they never deserved to be in the finals.
Kiganya and Abel led at the forefront for their side nailing 15 and 11 points respectively while KCB’s duo of Roy Kahure and Tobias Onyango who was harmless during the entire game donated 11 points to their side’s loss. COOP Bank was the best of the two sides and they deserved lifting the crown.
