KENYA : Upper Hill and Safe Spaces ready for top flight league .

NAIROBI Basketball Association (NBA) Provincial League champions Upper Hill and Safe Spaces are ready for new challenges in the top league. The two teams, who gained promotion to the national Division One and women Premier League respectively said they have what it takes to survive at the top level.

The students’ tactician George Mayienga admitted surviving at the national league’s second tier would not be an easy task but exuded confidence that his boys are upto the task. “It will not be easy playing up there.
But I am ready for the challenges ahead. With the kind of players in this team, we will be up there with the best,” said Mayienga, who also guided the team to their first national schools tournament in Kakamega early this year. Spaces tactician John “Moish” Njuguna was equally upbeat. “Last year we were second in the league but could not move up due to finances.
This time we are all set and will make some few recruitments to help us stay up there,” he said. Upper Hill beat Airways 79-75 while Safe Spaces beat Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 58-46 to claim the men and women’s crowns respectively during the best of five game series.
