Despite carrying four fouls, Sudi Ulanga led UCU Canons to their first win in the second round on Sunday. The Kenyan star scored 13 points in a 78-53 victory over Ndejje Angels. He made four rebounds and two assists to hand Ndejje a third loss in the second round of the Fuba league.
Sande Okot added 11 points and 13 rebounds while Martine Okwako scored 11 points and made nine rebounds as the university side dominated throughout.
It was sweet revenge for UCU who had gone down to the Angels in the first round. UCU took the first three quarters 11-8, 21-10 and 25-13 and were less concerned when Ndejje took the fourth 22-21.
“We have started to get back into rythm. Sudi was in foul trouble and he couldn’t finish the game but the end result was satisfying because we won,” said Dale Scully, UCU Canons’ general coach. He added: “We are going to compete harder in the last seven games to ensure we have a good chance to make play-offs.” UCU Canons had earlier lost their first second round game to Miracle Eagles 77-78.
Ndejje Angels now have a mountain to climb as they have lost three games in the second round. They went down to Falcons, Heaters and now to UCU. The Canons finished fifth in the first round with a 4-5 record.
