Kyambogo Warriors and KCC Leopards returned from the two-week break in the MTN-Fuba League and continued from where they left off, albeit doing so in contrasting fashion to maintain their stranglehold of their respective divisions.

Warriors thrashed Charging Rhino 78-46 whereas women’s giants KCC remain the only unbeaten team in topflight basketball after they laboured past fading A1 Challenge 43-38 at YMCA court on Friday night. Unlike in the first round when Rhino was the only team to defeat Warriors, the former never got a sniff this time as the 2009 champions bossed all four quarters 14-9, 24-8, 16-3 and 24-16 respectively.

Ronnie Kasewu, MVP when they won their only championship, scored 16 points and seven rebounds and Ivan Enabu added 16 points without showing the rust of not playing in a month. “It means a lot to win a game because it brings confidence,” Warriors coach Mandy Juruni said after his team surged to 9-1.

Eric Malinga shed a slow start to finish with 12 points and 11 rebounds to punish Rhino, who started life without Mark Opio on a low. The latter is in India for further studies and Rhino coach Ronnie Mutebi felt the pinch hard. “I am so disappointed in the way we executed our game. There were so many turnovers and missed shots,”he said.
