TANZANIA : Few delegates to cast votes in TBF elections

Only delegates from eight Mainland regions have been cleared to vote in the general election of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) to be held in Dar es Salaam on October 31.

The National Sport Council (NSC) official, Mohamed Kiganja, said the delegates are those whose regions have conducted elections to install new office bearers as per the council’s directive.

Kiganja said any other region which is yet to conduct elections is allowed to do so as long as it submits a line-up of its elected leaders before October 27.

He named the regions that complied with the NSC directive to hold regional leaders as Arusha, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Ruvuma, Mara, Morogoro, Iringa and Kilimanjaro.

Only delegates from those named regions will be admitted to vote in the scheduled general election that suffered two postponements in the past.

So far 18 aspirants have shown interest to contest for various posts in the basketball federation.

Four candidates have submitted forms to vie for the body’s presidential post that also include incumbent Richard Kasesera, Musa Mziya, who holds the vice presidency post, Faras Magesa and Jackson Kalikumtima.

Those aspiring for the vice-presidential post are Ahmed Babura and Alijua Mwakalinga while Salehe Zangu is the only aspirant who has submitted form to contest for the post of secretary general.

Two other contestants are for the assistant secretary general post and these are Robert Manyerere and John Nashi as Mary Mbanga vies for the post of a treasurer.

Candidates who are aspiring for various committee membership are Zulfikar Karim (planning and development), Julius Mkoji and Gosbert Boniface (technical), Moradi Hamis (disabled), Specioza Budodi (women), Adam Upunda (medical), Wanne Mkisi and Angnera Semwaiko (children).

The deadline for submitting duly filled election forms is set on October 28, three days ahead of the elections.
