Mogas Falcons, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons and 2005 Women’s champions A1 Challenge all won their respective contests on a thrilling Friday night in the MTN-Fuba National Basketball League at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

Six-time champions Falcons broke no sweat in routing Kampala International University (KIU) Men 80-57 while UCU Canons and A1 Challenge had close shaves in defeating Miracles Eagles (92-91) and 2008 Women’s champions UCU Lady Canons (55-51) respectively.

The Malinga brothers –Eric (20) and Henry (17) – combined for 37 points to lead Falcons onslaught while KIU conspired to miss the hoops throughout the night. Michael Kariuki (20 points) was the only outstanding player for KIU but none of his teammates managed double figures.
“Early in the game, we looked like we were going to get past the 90-point mark but fell short. (However), we will take the win for now and rectify whatever we did not do right,” said Steven Omony (9 points), the Falcons assistant coach-player signed for Shs72m from Seychelles’ PSL Hawks.

While Omony may not have had the scoring figures, he was mercurial on both ends of the court in terms of blocks, steals and assists, running the show for Falcons who made it two wins in three games.

Peter Elungat on his first season, sunk 12 points for Falcons.
