TANZANIA : Zone Five Inter Cities-now Arusha all set for event

Arusha is now all set for the 11th edition of the Zone Five Inter Cities championships that throws off from next Tuesday.

Agina Wesonga, the Inter Cities executive officer Agina Wesonga, just back from the Tanzanian city for the third time this year, said that all is in place for the five day show that will be played in at least three venues.

He said that after inspecting the match venues, there is still some work to be done but he was convinced that all will be in place before the tournament gets underway on March 24.
"I am impressed with the progress and can assure you that the back boards will be done before this weekend and that the courts will definately be ready by next Tuesday when they championships starts." said Agina.

He said that so far there will be a total of ten men and four women's teams and that still more are expected.. Mogadishu and Harare have announced their travel plans and will be making their debuts in the show.
"The two will be there and we are still awaiting word from Johannesburg and Lusaka who had expressed interest in competing in Arusha." said Agina. The tourney has been mainly between East African cities from Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

He revealed that the cities who will be sending men's teams are Mombasa, Mogadishu, Mwanza, Zanzibar, Harare, Tanga and Arusha. Kampala, Dar es Salaam and Mbeya will be sending both while Nairobi will be sending only women's side.
"With the kind of turn out that we already have, Arusha tournament could turn out to be the biggest in terms of attendance. We are looking forward to having a good and friendly championships." he noted.

The referees clinic to be conducted by Zone Five secretary general and international referee Vitalis Gode will be held for two days prior to the event tip off.
