TANZANIA : TBF selects basketball teams

Tanzania Basketball Federation TBF has selected players for the national teams (men and women) ahead of next month's African Challenge Trophy to be staged in Nairobi.

TBF's secretary general Lawrence Cheyo said American based Tanzanian export Hasheem Thabeet who features for the University of Connecticut Huskies has also been included in the team.
Other selected players in the men's team include Vijana's Abdallah Ramadhani (Dulla), three-point wizard Frank Kusiga, Ashraf Haroun, Mlewa Francis, Juma Kisocky and Mkumbo Mgendi from JKT.
Army Basketball Club's (ABC)'s Frank Augustino and Batungi Gilbert, Pascal Nsana (Oilers), George Tarimo (Savio) and Kenyan based Sudi Abdul.
Lady players are Grace Daudi and Jabu Shaaban (Jeshi Stars), Amina Ahmed (Lady Lions) and Evodia Kazinja (JKT).
This is the second time Thabeet has been called to join the national team but he was not available during the first call in 2001.
Cheyo said should the towering Thabeet who stands at be available it will be a big boost for the national team in the championship.
However, the TBF officials would not confirm the players' availability in relation to footing of the return flight fare and the NBA's college league fixtures in America.
Some of the countries expected to compete in the Nairobi continental championship include Uganda, Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia and hosts Kenya.
