FIBA - Central Board: 1st FIBA World Club Championship in 2010

The FIBA Central Board met on 6th and 7th December 2008 in Geneva. Among important decisions taken, there is the 1st FIBA World Club Championship to be played in October 2010 and will become an annual event featuring eight of the very best clubs in the world.
Further discussions and meetings will be held with the Chinese cities of Chengdu and Nanjing, which have already expressed strong interest in hosting this new competition, together with other interested cities.
The participating clubs will be each of the five FIBA Zone Club Champion teams (5 teams), the runners-up from the FIBA Europe and the FIBA Americas Zones and the final club will be an invited team by the host city (team to be approved by FIBA).
The 1st FIBA World Club Championship will take place over a five-day period in the second week of October 2010 and a total of 10 games will be played. The winner will receive 1 million USD in prize money.
