Sadolin Power and Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Canons took a giant stride towards winning this year’s MTN-Fuba League championship following victories in game one of the best of five final series Wednesday night at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

Power routed defending champions Falcons 109-85, while Lady Canons humiliated 2005 women title winners A-1 Challenge 50-24.
“They branded us kids but we want to prove them wrong. We are going to take it one game at a time,” Power’s centre forward David Kiberu said.

Falcons boss John Ssimbwa admitted his team had performed below expectations. “They outplayed us today. They ran better and their teamwork was unbelievable. But let’s go back and work for the next game,” Ssimbwa said.

Isaac Afidra had a memorable night, scoring a game high 24 points for Power, Joseph Ikong added 22 and Allan Tawoda 12. In contrast, the Malinga brothers were locked out of the game with Henry posting 12 points and Eric only six for Falcons.

A-1 Challenge were simply out of sorts in game one. Flavia Oketcho top scored for UCU with 14 points with Frances Nabulobi contributing 10. None of A-1 Challenge players registered double figures.
