SEYCHELLES : Federation (SBF) Cup - Dawgz and Anse Etoile march on

AFTER claiming the top two positions in this year’s Men’s Division Two league championship, winners Mont Fleuri Dawgz and runners-up Anse Etoile are marching on in the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF) Cup.

Having booked their ticket to play in the top flight next year, the Dawgz did not break sweat against AAP Brothers, who did not turn up.
Anse Aux Pins-based AAP Brothers have not played a single match since their second-round league match against the Dawgz ended in confusion on Sunday September 7.
AAP Brothers walked off the Victoria Gymnasium court with 20 seconds left on the clock in the final quarter.
André brothers Steve and Steven of AAP Brothers and Mont Fleuri Dawgz’ Didier Valmont were disqualified by the match officials for fighting on the court and it was at this point that the whole AAP Brothers team decided to walk out.
Leading 60-40, Mont Fleuri Dawgz were awarded victory and two points, as is stipulated by the Fédération internationale de basket-ball amateur (Fiba) bye-laws.
Valmont was hit with a three-match suspension for fighting, while the André brothers were handed a one-match ban each.
The Brothers have been fined R500 for leaving the court, and because they failed to turn up for two league matches they will have to re-register in 2009 if they decide to compete. This means they will have to pay the R500 registration fee and the R500 fine as per the Seychelles Basketball Federation bye-laws.
The Dawgz will now meet Pointe Larue Falcons tomorrow at 5pm at Victoria Gymnasium.
On Wednesday at Victoria Gymnasium, Anse Etoile had four players – captain Christian Toulon (25 points), Luciano Moumou (24), Nigel Collie (14) and Jason Jean (14) – scoring in double figures in a 95-85 win over Drifters.
Although they looked stronger on paper, Anse Etoile had to work hard for their win as Arnaud Arissol was a thorn in their defence with a game-high 41 points for his young Anse Boileau-based team.

Anse Etoile’s next opponents are first division side Cascade Bullets.
