This year’s Sprite schools invitational basketball tournament is expected to be bigger and better after Century Bottling Company Limited announced an improved sponsorship package of Shs79.3m yesterday.

Under the Sprite brand, the company injected Shs59m in last year’s tournament hosted by St. Josephs Vocational School, Mbarara.
“There are schools that have no chance of qualifying for any national championship.
That’s why we decided to put this invitational tournament in place to help those schools improve their game,” Coca Cola promotions manager Kennedy Mutenyo announced at a press briefing in Namanve.
This year’s tourney is to be hosted by Kigezi High School, Kabale. “I would like to caution all participants to come with their documents and make sure they are bonafide students,” organizing committee head Rafael Bwire warned.
The teams assemble at the venue on Saturday and must undergo mandatory screening the following day before getting into action for six days.
Budo SS, Ssaku, Kololo SS, Bugema Adventist, Eagles Nest, Ntare, St. Kalemba, St. Michael and Muntuyera are some of the teams that have confirmed their participation.
Makerere College School (boys) and Eagles Nest (girls) are the defending champions.
