NIGERIA : African Nations Cup - NBBF Opens Camp

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has invited 13 players for immediate camping in Lagos. The Secretary General of the Federation Mr. Francis Gbiri told THISDAYSport that the letters requesting the players' releases have been sent to the state associations and the clubs the players feature for.
"We wrote to the states and the clubs involved as soon the list of players was screened and approved. And so the players are expected to arrive on the date stated," Gbiri said.
The camp is billed to start in Lagos today with the National Stadium as venue for the training. Former national coach Ayo Bakare returns to the scene as the Head Coach and will be assisted by Sani Ahmed of Kano Pillars. Both coaches have been part of the national team programmes for the past 15years. The team will train daily at the stadium from 11am to 2pm expectedly to make way for league matches also holding at the same venue.
The team made of entirely home-based league players are in camp preparatory to the 25th African Nations Cup qualifiers. The African Zone Three qualifiers will be holding in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire from July 28th to August 5th. Nigeria could not get a direct entry because The Tigers finished at the fifth position in the last edition in Angola two years ago.
The full list of players has Enovakhare Lee (Lagos Islanders), Awere Cyril (Kano Pillars), Edeghe Boniface (Yelwa Hawks), Ebikoro Dennis (Ebun Comets) Onyeka Ekpite (Comets) and Gumut Stanley (Plateau Peaks). The others are Yusuf Ibrahim Adamu (Kano Pillars), Usman Abubakar (Niger Potters), Dike Azuoma (Union Bank), Daudu Onokhoje Daniel (Union Bank), Mohammed Abdulrahman (Nigeria Customs), Ikyator Orseer (Comets), and Edem Ekpeyong (Yelwa Hawks).
The other persons on the list are the Head of Delegation, Dr. Adamu Ahmed, who is the Federation's head of Technical Committee, and the Secretary General. The team doctor has not been named.
