TANZANIA : Brewers Pour Sh15m to Back Basketball Tourney in Tanga

Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has injected Sh15 million to cater for the National Basketball League (Kili NBL) that gets underway in Tanga today.
TBL's brand manager for Kilimanjaro Premium beer, Oscar Shelukindo said the money has been donated to cover accommodation and internal transport to the 12 participating teams.
Shelukindo said each team will be entitled to Sh400,000 and the balance would be used for promotional efforts in the tournament. Similarly, about Sh400,000 has been set aside for the eventual winner of the tournament, while the first and second runners up have Sh300,000 and Sh200,000 as prize money, respectively.
The prize packages are the same for the men and women teams. Other prizes include Sh100,000 for the most valuable players (MVP), he said, meanwhile as teams have reported in Tanga ahead of the kick off, where Chief Justice Augustino Ramadhani, the new patron of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) will officiate.
TBF president Richard Kasesela thanked the brewers for their timely response as the event was on the brink of missing a sponsor.
Holders Savio from Dar es Salaam are expected to set the ball rolling as they take on Bombo team at the Mkwakwani Stadium today.
Kasesera said he wished all the best for the competitors, urging them to display a sportsmanship spirit during the tourney.
The tournament winner will feature in the East and Central Africa club championship whose host and date are yet to be announced.
