NIGERIA : NBBF, Stakeholders Meet Saturday

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) and other members of the Nigerian basketball circle will hold the Basketball Stakeholders Conference on Saturday with Abuja as the venue. The date and venue was confirmed by the Federation's Secretary General Mr. Francis Gbiri who was online to THISDAYSports from the NBBF Secretariat in Abuja.
"The date is settled. We are meeting on the 19th (Saturday) in Abuja and the letters of invitation have been sent out accordingly to everyone expected to attend," Gbiri said.
The letter sent by the Secretary to the associations and made available to THISDAYSports reads in part: "I write with reference to the attached programme for 2008 - 2011 Basketball Activities for the Federation and FIBA.
"The Executive Board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) at its meeting of Saturday, 15th December, 2007, adopted the 2008 Programme as a provisional working paper.
"Further to this approval, I am directed to inform you that the programme will be our guide for planning, preparation and participation at the 2008 activities. However, the programme is subject to change and modification depending on prevailing circumstances."
The meeting will be a combined one for both the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences of the Premier League as requested by some of the teams spoken to by THISDAYSports in an exclusive report last weekend. The meeting will involve representatives of the Federation, representatives of the referees, club owners and representatives of the various state associations across the country. The club owners and managers of the female clubs of the Zenith Premier League are also part of the conference.
The meeting will take a close look at the tentative 2007/08 programme put together by the Federation.
In that regard the conference will deliberate and agree on the take off date of the league as proposed by the NBBF.
The meeting will chiefly deliberate on the Premier League, the Women's league general ideas on way forward for the basketball system in the country.
