UGANDA : Warriors seeking revenge against Power

A-1 v Rangers 7:00pm
Warriors v Power 8:30pm

KYAMBOGO Warriors’ utility player Brian Gumisiriza is itching to exert revenge on Sadolin Power when the two teams meet tonight in Game One of the best of three MTN-Fuba League semi-final play-off series at Lugogo.

Despite being top contenders, Warriors fell 2-0 to Power in last season’s semi-finals. But Power also went on to lose 1-3 to Marines in the best of five finals while Warriors settled for third place after outlasting Falcons.

Warriors, arguably the most balanced team in Uganda’s basketball, has never made the finals but Gumisiriza asserts this could be their best chance. “We are going out for revenge and this should be enough motivation to beat Power.

Last year’s loss is still on our minds and we hope to make the finals,” Gumisiriza said. While acknowledging the fact that Power won’t be just a push over, Gumisiriza noted; “Every team in the play-offs is good. But personally I would prefer facing Power instead of UCU Canons or Falcons.” Going by their regular season form, Warriors are favourites to make the finals but must contain Wilbrod Oketcho, who has been the most consistent post player.

2005 women champions A-1 Challenge will look up to Ali Mavita, Gloria Kyomugisha, Elizabeth Kiiza, Josephine Namayega and Viola Akuma as they take on KIU Rangers while Gulu Hawks are pitted against Crane High School in the Second Division play-offs.
