TANZANIA : Teams confirm basketball league participation

MORE teams have confirmed participation in the Union Basketball League, which is scheduled to take off at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam from April 23 to 29.

Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Secretary General, Lawrence Cheyo said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that five teams had already confirmed taking part in the event.
Cheyo named the teams as JKT who were the first team to confirm followed by the newly crowned National Basketball league (NBL) Champions Savio and Oilers in men’s discipline while in the ladies category are Lady Lioness and Jeshi Stars.
He also noted that Bees from Tabora Region was the only team in men’s discipline which had not met the deadline and that they were looking forward to replacing the team with Dodoma Spurs.
On the ladies’ side, the teams which had not met the deadline include the category NBL champions (NBL), JKT Queens and Mapinduzi Dodoma.
Cheyo also observed that eight teams from Zanzibar taking part in the event would be known after the isle’s basketball mini league winds up on April 19.
In another development, TBF has requested Cargo Ladies and Prisons Ladies teams to return to the federation offices the trophies they won in last year’s event held in Zanzibar ready for the Dar es Salaam event. JKT and Savio who were the winners in men’s category had already returned their trophies.
