The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has awarded Rwanda the task of hosting the qualifiers of the 9th edition of All Africa Games scheduled for Algiers, Algeria in July.

The Kigali qualifiers will attract both men and women, contrary to the previous events.
"Before, the qualifiers only involved men's teams but this time, women are also part of the competition," Innocent Karuhije, the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) technical director disclosed to Times Sport. The All Africa Games competition that falls after every four years was first staged in 1965 with Congo (Brazzaville) as hosts.
Nigeria is set to compete at the Algiers Games as defending champions, having won the 2003 edition in Abuja, on 226 points, twelve more than runners-up Egypt.
In a related development, Rwanda and Angola have been tipped to host the African Cup of Nations (CAN) basketball event. Karuhije said that Rwanda's chances of winning the hosting rights will greatly depend on the success of the Zone V Championships. The qualifiers are scheduled to run from February 3-10
