RWANDA : Basketballers Crying for Sponsorship

Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) has called upon different companies and organisations to come to its rescue as it prepares the national teams for All Africa Games' qualifiers. The qualifier that doubles as the Zone V championships will bring together national men and women teams from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, Somalia, Burundi, and hosts Rwanda. The championship runs from February 3-10 at Amahoro Petit stade.

"We are entirely looking at the ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture (MIJESPOC) to bail us out. We have presented the budget and are waiting for their response," said Ferwaba's technical director, Innocent Karuhije.

He added: "However, in other countries, in addition to the government's support, you find different companies offering both financial and moral support to the team. This is a regional event and I would think that local companies would use this chance to market their products," advised a seemingly disappointed Karuhije. He disclosed Ferwaba has budgeted for Frw 216 millions to host this championship.
"We have the budget ready and we need Frw216 million. In addition to the event expenses, the budget also caters the national teams' expenses," added Karuhije.
"MIJESPOC has been very supportive. They made it possible for the teams to travel to Nairobi late last year, footed the teams' camping expenses and so on," he continued.
