KENYAN import Michael Karuiki scored a game high 22 points to help 2000 champions Sadolin Power defeat Kyambogo Warriors 78-69 in game one of the MTN Basketball League semi-final play-off series played at YMCA Wandegeya courts Sunday evening.

Warriors were pre-match favourites but had a poor start to the game, losing first quarter 15-21. They recovered in the second scoring 26 points compared to Power's 14, but lost the last two quarters 18-22, 10-21. Without injured Wilbrod Oketcho Power looked composed all through, with Allan Tawoda scoring 17 points, newly appointed captain Mark Enabu 11 and Richard Balemwa 7.

Leading scorer Stephen Okias and Nelson Wafula garnered 16 points apiece while Ronnie Kasewu added 14 in the Warriors' losing effort. With the result, Power can now seal a place in the final if they register a win in game two due this Sunday.

In the ladies category Frances Nabulobi, Flavia Oketcho and Judith Akoth combined well for 51 points, leading record champions Lady Bucks to a convincing 70-44 win over KIU Rangers. Hadija Kiiza and Barbara Namukaya collected 13 points apiece while Tewin Semakula registered 7 but could not save KIU.

Women defending champs A-1 Challenge was facing KCC Leopards, while Falcons were up against Marines before we went to press last evening.
