UGANDA : Ace Afidra spurs KIU past hapless Warriors

By Gloria Kyomugisha

ALL-STAR Isaac Afidra helped Kampala International University open their second round positively with a 73-58 drubbing of Kyambogo Warriors in the MTN basketball league.

Afidra scored a demolishing 24 points and taunted Warriors’ go-to-guy Ronnie Kasewu into committing an unsportsmanly foul as KIU avenged a 76-69 first round loss to the Makerere University side and captured a fifth win in ten games.

The game that witnessed a lot of drama saw KIU’s Emma Baguma foul Kasewu in the first quarter as he drove to the hoop. A furious Kasewu then elbowed Afidra who had mentioned a few words to him.

Kasewu was awarded an unsportsmanly foul to which he retaliated by insulting the referee, who then ejected him from the match leaving Warriors to struggle on.

“We got disorganised after our point guard Ronnie was ejected in the first half and failed to get our game on track,” said Stephen Okias.

The victory saw KIU climb to seventh place and Warriors drop from third to fifth on the Yello Max conference standings.

At Makerere University Pool court, a huge 31 points and five spot dunks effort from new signing Bernard Okumu kept the Vegetarians rolling with a 92-65 defeat of Blue Jackets.

Sandra Munduru and Vicky Nassolo nailed 11 points apiece for MUK-Sparks as the side posted a 46-41 victory over KIU Rangers, halting their eight-game winning streak.
