NIGERIA : AHmedu Thumb-up Savannah, Sahara Conference

National Coordinator of the 2006 Nestle Milo Secondary Schools’ Basketball Championship has Col. Sam Ahmedu (rtd) have lauded the standard of play in the Savannah and Sahara Conferences of the school championship aimed at discovering new talents for various clubs and the Nigeria national teams.

“Most of the matches in the Savannah and Sahara Conferences have been very competitive. The standard of play has been very impressive. We have seen some good players with great potentials,” said Ahmedu a Board member of the Nigeria Basketball Federation and owner of high-riding Dodan Warriors Basketball Club of Lagos.

Ahmedu who watched the explosive Boys final between Bauchi and Borno at the Multi-purpose Indoor Sports Hall, Bauchi said the winners from the two conferences have very good chances in the national final slated for October in Lagos.

In the Savannah Conference finals played at the Kofar Marta Indoor Sports Hall, Kano, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi College, Kaduna defeated Government College, Katsina 45-23 in the boys’ category, while Government Girls College, Gazawi-Kano defeated Queen Amina College, Kaduna 10-06 in the girls’ cadre.

Meanwhile, expected to represent the Sahara Conference in the national final are Government College, Maiduguri, Borno State (Boys) and Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi (Girls).
