Reigning women’s Basketball League champions, Kenya Ports Authority, defeated Telkom by 66-51 in their fast-paced weekend league match at Makande in Mombasa.

Led by Gladys Wanyama and Rose Ouma, the East and Central Africa Club Championships title holders went on the offensive early, leading by 20-10 points in the first quarter. Telkom women struggled to catch up but found the going tough as they trailed 32-39 by half time. Ouma, was undoubtedly the player of the day, top-scoring with 26 points while Wanyama scored 18 points.

In Nairobi, Ulinzi Warriors were on Saturday declared the winners on a 20-0 basis after KCB Lions caused the abandonement of their top basketball Premier League-cum-Madaraka Day Cup match at Nyayo National Stadium. Lions walked out of the court with 29 seconds left in protest of the 24-second short clock which had failed with two minutes, 45 seconds left.

International referees Joseph Amoko and Vitalis Gode called the two coaches who agreed to continue playing without the 24 second short clock. Ulinzi Warriors were up 64-60 when the clock developed the hitch. Other results were: Pirates 80 Nakuru Club 61, Java Warriors 81 Telkom 79, Nairobi Pentecostal Church 74 Don Bosco 60.

In the Nairobi Basketball Association League, the Fidel Maithya-led Langata Crusaders piled the pressure on leaders Blazers with a 53-41 victory over African Nazarene University.
