KENYA: Six teams for regional top club contest

Kenya will be represented by six teams during the East and Central Africa Club Championships slated for Nairobi in April, a top Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) official said Sunday.

Agina Wesonga, the KBF chairman, said that by virture of having the defending champions KCB Lions (men) and Sprite Storms (women), Kenya will enter four more teams in the six-day tournament set to start on April 18.

Apart from Lions and Storms, the other teams for the regional show are national champions Ulinzi Warriors and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women, Kenya Railways and Sprite Stormers. Kenya last hosted the regional show in 2002 where KPA and APR of Rwanda won the championships.

The country first hosted the show in 1996.

"We will have the draws and the technical meeting a day before the championships," said Agina adding that "we expect a full house with teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Seychelles, Zanzibar and Rwanda.

At the same time, it was announced the secretariat of the regional body has been moved from Kampala to Nairobi with effect from this year.
